Case Study: CRT Refurbishment
Thomas Electronics refurbished Avionics display CRTs for
a flight simulator OEM
Customer: An OEM producing
Flight Simulators
Title: CRT Refurbishment
Problem / Solution: Thomas'
customer had two problems. The first problem was to maintain
a CRT based simulator over a multi-year contract in a cost
effective manner. The second problem was to keep the equipment
current technology by introducing faster decay phosphors
not available from the CRT OEM due to low volume. Thomas
was able to simultaneously solve both problems. We were
able to refurbish the CRTs, even though they are were
not originally Thomas design. We received the CRTs, tested
and identified the failure mode and then disassembled
the CRTs. We applied a new phosphor screen, which also
had the faster decay characteristics required as part
of the system upgrade, sealed in place new electron guns,
tested and re-assembled the CRTs and returned them to
our customer with a new warranty.
